The tasks of Finnmedia
The Federation of the Finnish Media Industry defends freedom of speech, promotes the safeguarding of interests of the media sector employers and facilitates business activity. An important task of the Federation is to have an active role in the drafting of legislation concerning the sector and to influence application of the regulations.
Ensuring freedom of speech
The Federation of the Finnish Media Industry wants to safeguard freedom of speech in all circumstances. This applies to dissemination of opinions, information, programs and other messages in various forms, including commercial messages, i.e. advertising.
The significance of advertising in the supply of media services is crucial. We strive to develop and promote the Finnish advertising market in cooperation with other interest groups of advertising.
Finnmedia is also active in other issues that play a role in the success of the sector. These issues include e.g. promotion of journalist ethics and development of copyright and media market legislation.
Promotion of employer policy interests
Promotion of employer policy interests and services related to employment contracts are offered to direct corporate members of the Federation.
The federation offers the following services in employer issues:
- company-specific advice in employment contract issues
- assistance in settling labour disputes or threats of such in the company
- training in realisation of collective agreement reforms (e.g. minimum wage systems)
- Extranet information service and expert services of the Confederation of Finnish Industries, EK.
- absolute industrial peace
We act as the employer organisation primarily for the printed media and graphic arts industries.
There are nine collective labour agreements in the sector, seven of which are universally binding.
Promotion of entrepreneurial activity
General promotion of entrepreneurial activities in cooperation with other business organisations is an important part of the safeguarding of interests. The Federation of the Finnish Media Industry is a member of the Confederation of Finnish Industries, EK.
Issues related to technology, research and development form an important part of the activities of the Federation and the Media Industry Research Foundation working closely with it.
