Personal grants support development of expertise


On application, the Foundation issues various personal stipends and grants for development of expertise.
 
The grants are opened for application annually at the beginning of the year. All applications shall be submitted in writing on the application form.
 
On the application the applicant shall state the following:
• previous activities in the graphic arts sector
• plan on the use of the grant.
Recipients of the grants are notified in the middle of April. The recipients shall submit a written report of the use of their grant to the Foundation within the stipulated time.


The Foundation issues the following grants

Travel grants

The Foundation issues travel grants to researchers and teachers as well as to individual persons working in the field of operation of the Foundation for development of their expertise.


 The recipient of the grant shall

  • draft a report on the use of the grant
  • write a publishable article for a magazine of the sector on the topic of the trip in question

Education grants for development of expertise

Grants for development of professional skills are issued to persons working in technical tasks or in the management of businesses in the field of operation of the Foundation.

 

Grants for continuing education

The Foundation issues grants for continuing education in Finland or abroad for persons aiming for a licentiate or doctorate degree in the fields of

  • media technology
  • graphic arts technology or
  • imaging technology.

The grant is intented for full-time continuing education studies. The recipient may not have another full-time occupation. The students work in the laboratories of universities or research institutes or in industrial companies in the field. Grants may also be issued for covering a part of the costs.
 
Grants for a licentiate degree may be issued for two and a half  years. Grants for a doctorate degree may be issued for three years, and in exceptional cases with compelling reasons, even for a fourth year.
 
The grant shall be applied for annually and it can be paid out only if the recipient has reported on the progress of his/her work.  The size of the grant is decided by the Board of Directors of the Foundation.  The grants are taxable income for the part exceeding the annual sum of the State Grant for Artistic Achievement.

 

Grants for Master’s Degree

Grants are issued for theses for a Master’s Degree  in

  • media technology
  • graphic arts technology or
  • imaging technology.

Grants for a Master’s Degree may be applied for at any time. A review by the professor supervising the thesis shall be enclosed to the application.
 
The size of the grant is decided annually by the Board of Directors of the Foundation. The grant is paid out in instalments according to the progress of the work.

 

Stipends

The foundation issues annually stipends for outstanding achievement in professional studies in vocational schools and institutes of the field. The stipends are issued at the end of studies based on recommendations by the teachers.
 
The Foundation also awards the two best theses for Master’s Degree in the fields of printing technology and media technology based on recommendations by the professors.
